This post is not a comeback, I would not sleep tonight before write something about this. I had no time to check the translation, so excuse me by errors. Portuguese text in the final of this post.

Brazil-fansFans wearing masks with the face of the player Neymar, hide their face to not see the shameful defeat of the Brazilian National Team.

Who in the CBF forgot to pay the electric bill of the Brazilian team? In the country of the blackouts, who was turned off was the Brazilian team…

Check out below the best moments of the Brazil team against Germany:

Brazil-team-best-moments
Of course I’m sad. I’m a Brazilian. And lose from one or two goals it’s alright, because someone has to lose, but seven goals??? Being 5 goals just in the first thirty minutes? And of course the Germany team is infinitely superior. The Germans are experienced in World Cups, and went into camp organized and rested, while the Brazil team, which in addition to much inferior technically entered the field after two battles in a row: the dramatic decision on penalties against Chile and the war against Colombia, which resulted in two major absences: Neymar, who fractured his spine, and Thiago Silva, suspended for yellow card.

The three goals conceded against France in the final of the 1998 World Cup until it was not so bad. If this can be a consolation for the fans who lost their time, energy and money watching any game of this World Cup in Brazil: The Brazil team is very, very, very bad and only got where they got because they only kicked dead dogs in their path, and still stumbled in Mexicans and was nearly to be eliminated on penalties by the Chileans.

In the first strongest opponent in their path – the Germany of Klose (the biggest scorer of the history of the World Cups from now, with 16 goals) – the Brazil team took a lesson of how to play soccer and how to play a World Cup. Unfortunately, this lesson will never be learned totally. Four years from now, everything will be repeated. At least the next World Cup will not be in Brazil.

And another consolation for the fans with clown faces right now: it was better to lose to Germany than to lose any final for Argentina at the Maracana Stadium, reediting the tragedy of 1950 when Brazil lost to Uruguay playing at home in front of more than hundred thousand people. And tomorrow we will all cheer for the Netherlands!

And finally, this little joke on the Internet: it would be better for the players of Brazil to compete in the UFC – at least there the referee ends the dispute when someone is being beaten too much. And one more joke: after the game, the Globo TV will show a documentary about World War II. At least there, Germany loses.

Ok, let’s laugh a little more with this two memes found on Internet:

joke-1Translation: “Neither Volkswagen makes 5 Gols in 30 minutes. “

joke-2Translation: “Very beautiful homage that players did for Neymar. If he does not play, they do not play too…”

To save and never forget the worst performance in the history of the World Cups of the Brazilian National Team:

Parabéns, Ayrton Senna do Brasil.

Happy Birthday, Ayrton Senna

senna-win

There will never be another sportsman as Ayrton Senna. On 1st May 1994, Formula 1 ceased to exist for me. If he were still alive, Ayrton Senna da Silva would be completing 54 years today. Happy Birthday, Ayrton Senna of Brazil.

20 years without the great champion

Ayrton Senna was honored by Google with a “Doodle” (custom logo, celebrating birthdays and events). An image of the three times champion of Formula 1 and the green and yellow colors will appear today in the start page of the search site worldwide.

senna-doodle

It’s the first time Google honors a racing driver with a “Doodle”. Since the beginning of the year, the memory of Ayrton Senna is being exalted in several countries as a way to remember the 20th anniversary of the tragic death of the Brazilian racer in GP of San Marino in 1994. Earlier this month, the legendary MP4/4, with which Senna won his first world title in 1988, was one of the attractions of a festival in Sydney, Australia. The pilot was also the samba’s theme of Unidos da Tijuca, champion of Rio de Janeiro carnival:

The greatest homage should happen between 1 and 4 May at the Imola circuit – place of the death of the three times F1 champion. During the four days of activities, will be held church services, exhibition of films, photos and Pilot Cars, parade of vintage cars, kart racing, etc. Part of the proceeds of the event will be for the Institute Ayrton Senna, chaired by the sister of the pilot, Viviane Senna, an organization that helps nearly 2 million children in Brazil.

The work of the Institute Ayrton Senna is also recognized outside Brazil. Last Saturday in Miami (USA), a gala dinner was sponsored by Brazil Foundation to honor individuals and organizations concerned with social causes in the country. Bianca Senna, director of branding of the IAS and niece of three times world champion, received the tribute on behalf the organization that annually brings quality public education to 2 million children and youth in more than 1,300 municipalities in Brazil. The dinner was attended by conducting a charity auction and the highest bidder was given to the silver helmet commemorating the 20-year legacy of Ayrton Senna – US$ 28 000:

The Williams team, which has Brazilian Felipe Massa as a driver, unveiled its new paint job for the 2014 season. The beautiful design of the car has an interesting detail in the beak of the FW36: the label “Ayrton Senna Forever”, the official logo of Instituto Ayrton Senna designed for the series of tributes for the 20 years without the great champion.

say-no-to-the-world-cup

Months ago, a large part of the Brazilian people – at least the conscious and well informed part – raise up from their chair and gone to the streets to protest against the World Cup 2014 in Brazil. Meantime, another part of the population still remains alienated or manipulated by the media and government authorities – who will use the event only for its own benefit and to profit from sponsors and overpriced works – still thinking that it’s very pretty that a country with serious problems in infrastructure and poor public services burn tons of money in football stadiums and in creating works that will not bring any benefit to the population, increasingly abandoned by its rulers. Read more clicking here.

Aside from the popular protests that since June took to the streets against the World Cup and caused scenes of destruction and police violence ever seen in the country since the days of the military dictatorship, the scandals with the overpricing of the works – such as the billionaire reform of the Maracanã stadium – stage of the World Cup final – and excesses of governments of capital cities that will host world Cup matches, as Rio de Janeiro and São Paulo, have served even more to increase the chorus of dissatisfied with the realization of the World Cup in Brazil. Read more clicking here.

Besides the risk of an epidemic of dengue fever during the hosting of the World Cup in 2014 (read more clicking here), on November 27 in São Paulo, part of the structure of Itaquerão stadium, which is being built to host the World Cup opening ceremony, collapsed, killing two workers and causing negative repercussions in the international media with works being carried out hurriedly and without adequate supervision. Read more clicking here and here.

On this Sunday, the final round of the Brazilian soccer championship, which has had as champion Cruzeiro MG, was marked by the savagery of some fans of Vasco da Gama (RJ) and Atlético (PR), which fought in the bleachers of Joinville Arena in disgraceful scenes of violence that won the world and showed, among other embarrassments, why Brazil should not host a world Cup.

Violence and savagery in the country of the World Cup

Due to a security issue – The Public Ministry of Paraná banned the presence of Military Police inside the stadiums – fans of Vasco da Gama and Atlético-PR clashed in the bleachers of Joinville Arena. The game was crucial for both teams: Vasco was struggling against relegation to the second division and Atlético for a berth among the teams that will compete in the Libertadores Cup, the most important South American tournament, next year. Four fans were injured and taken to hospital. Estevão Viana, 24, William Batista, 19, and Gabriel Ferreira Vitael, 20, are the three fans who were hospitalized on this Sunday. Diogo Cordeiro da Costa Ferreira, 29, also came to be taken to hospital, but as he did not suffer serious injuries, was cleared by doctors.

The care to the wounded mobilized even a helicopter that landed on the lawn of Joinville Arena to remove the fans who had to go to the hospital. The police, when entered the stadium and managed to contain the fight, also provided relief to the victims of violence, helping to get them out of the place. The fight between fans of the two teams started at 17 minutes of the first time and it took many time to be contained because there were no police inside the stadium. The Military Police was acting only outside of the Joinville Arena. Internally, there were only private security hired by Atlético-PR for the game this Sunday.

Because of the fight, full of shocking images, the game was paralyzed for more than 1 hour. After the intervention of the MP, who controlled the confusion and took over the policing inside the stadium, including an increase in effective, the referee could restart the match. In the end, Atlético-PR beat Vasco by 5-1 and Vasco will play in the second division next year.

Dear non-Brazilian reader, this warning it’s just for you. Please do not come to Brazil to the World Cup 2014 and ask to your friends and family to do not come too. Why? Read some posts published on this blog (or read the Editorial) and you will know why, but now there’s a great risk to your health.

Football fever could be a dose of dengue

Fans at next year’s World Cup in Brazil may be exposed to a nasty and incurable tropical disease

The twentieth FIFA World Cup will take place in Brazil in June and July next year. This football tournament is expected to sell more than 3 million tickets and attract more than half a million international fans. But those who attend will have more to worry about than the fitness of their top goalscorers: dengue fever could be a significant problem in some of the tournament locations, and preventive measures are needed. Dengue is a persistent threat to Brazilians, as it is to billions of people throughout the tropics. It is much less familiar to others, such as Europeans. This means that FIFA, the Brazilian authorities and the World Cup sponsors must use their influence and experience to communicate the risk and what protective measures fans should take.

aedes-aegyptiPhoto of the Aedes aegypti mosquito, which transmits the dengue virus, easily recognized by the white spots.

One thing we know already is that the dengue risk will be close to its peak when matches are played in three of the host cities: Fortaleza, Natal and Salvador, all in the northeast of the country. Much could be done by the authorities there to reduce dengue risk in the run-up to the tournament. Read more.

The background is the probability of dengue occurrence scaled between 0 and 1. The scale moves from green (zero probability of occurrence) to red (100% probability of occurrence). Stadium names are as follows: Manaus: Arena da Amazônia; Fortaleza: Estádio Plácido Aderaldo Castelo; Natal: Arena das Dunas; Recife: Itaipava Arena Pernambuco; Salvador: Itaipava Arena Fonte Nova; Brasília: Estádio Nacional Mané Garrincha; Cuiabá: Arena Pantanal; Belo Horizonte: Estádio Governador Magalhães Pinto; Rio de Janeiro: Estádio do Maracanã; São Paulo: Arena Corinthians; Curitiba: Arena da Baixada; Porto Alegre: Estádio José Pinheiro Borda.

dengue-feverdengue-graphics

Dengue is a viral infection that can produce a severe fever and symptoms that may require hospitalization. It is transmitted to (and between) humans by urban-adapted, day-biting Aedes mosquitoes and is therefore a particular problem in towns and cities. To explore this risk, my colleagues and I assessed the potential levels of exposure by examining distribution maps for dengue in Brazil and records of its seasonal variation at key sites.

Like the weather, it is impossible to forecast the precise situation with regard to dengue in Brazil in 2014. We can, however, make informed guesses on the basis of averaged records of dengue in previous years. For the areas around nine of the World Cup stadiums, these records show that the main dengue season will have passed before the World Cup is held in June and July. Unfortunately, the risk remains high during these months in the northeast.

The Brazilian authorities should implement aggressive vector control in April and May, particularly around the northern stadiums, to decrease the number of dengue-transmitting mosquitoes. They can target adult Aedes mosquitoes through fogging (the use of aerosol formulations of insecticides that disperse efficiently) and can interrupt breeding by clearing sites at which the mosquitoes lay their eggs — water collected in discarded rubbish, for example. Although control efforts have failed to stem the worldwide increasing incidence of dengue and the expansion of its endemic range, considerable local, albeit transient, reductions in mosquito populations have been achieved in some places, including Singapore.

dengue-world-fever

There are no vaccines or drugs against dengue, but an individual will never contract dengue if they do not get bitten by an infected mosquito in the first place. So avoiding mosquito bites is the best precaution. Select accommodation with screened windows and doors and air conditioning; use insecticides indoors; wear clothing that covers the arms and legs, especially during early morning and late afternoon, when the chance of being bitten is greatest; and apply insect repellent to clothing and exposed skin. “Nothing can keep me away from the love of God”
Ayrton Senna, inscription on his grave

Ayrton Senna was a Brazilian racing driver. A three-time Formula One world champion, he is widely regarded as one of the greatest F1 drivers of all time. He was killed in a crash while leading the 1994 San Marino Grand Prix and is the last driver to die at the wheel of a Formula One car.

Senna began his motorsport career in karting, moving up to open-wheel racing in 1981 and winning the British Formula 3 championship in 1983. He made his Formula One debut with Toleman-Hart in 1984 before moving to Lotus-Renault the following year and winning six Grands Prix over the next three seasons. In 1988, he joined Frenchman Alain Prost at McLaren-Honda. Between them, they won all but one of the sixteen Grands Prix that year and Senna his first World Championship. Prost claimed the championship in 1989 and Senna his second and third championships in 1990 and 1991. In 1992, the Williams-Renault combination began to dominate Formula One. Senna nonetheless managed to finish the 1993 season as runner-up, winning five races and negotiating a move to Williams in 1994.

In 2009, a poll of 217 current and former Formula One drivers conducted by the British magazine Autosport named Senna as the greatest Formula One driver. He was recognised for his qualifying speed over one lap and from 1989 until 2006 held the record for most pole positions. He was especially quick in wet conditions, as shown by his performances in the 1984 Monaco Grand Prix, the 1985 Portuguese Grand Prix, and the 1993 European Grand Prix. He also holds the record for most victories at the prestigious Monaco Grand Prix – six – and is the third most successful driver of all time in terms of race wins.
